Irish players commonly assume that depositing at an online casino is the difficult part. The cashier loads, the card is rejected, and the whole session stalls. Since 5 February 2026, a large share of those rejections has one straightforward cause: credit cards can no longer be used for gambling in Ireland.
Depositing is rarely the hard part once you use a debit card, Revolut, or another permitted method. Withdrawing is where most friction appears, and the reasons are structural rather than tied to any single brand. This page sets out the methods Irish players actually use, what has changed in law, and what to check before your first withdrawal.
Top casinos by payment options
The table below lists casinos we cover, ordered by the transparency score we give each operator for how openly it documents its licence. A score of 8 or above means the operator’s Irish betting licence and overseas casino licence are easy to match in public registers. It does not mean the casino pays quickly or offers every method.

Payment methods vary between brands, sometimes by licence and sometimes by the platform behind the cashier. Check the operator’s own payment page before you deposit, because a casino can offer Visa to one account and only Skrill to another depending on your verification status. Our scores come from the public registers, not from depositing or withdrawing. More on that process is in how we review casinos.
For every score, the same test applies. We look for the casino licence in a public register, a GRAI touchpoint, disclosure on the operator’s own pages, accuracy of its Irish claims and corporate traceability.
Credit cards are banned, and what that means in practice
Since 5 February 2026 no player in Ireland can use a credit card to fund gambling, whether online, on a phone, or in a betting shop. The ban also stops licensees from facilitating credit in any form, so a casino cannot offer a workaround, a credit facility, or a charge to a credit account through a third party. Debit cards are completely unaffected.
At the cashier you will usually see Visa and Mastercard listed, but the deposit attempt fails the moment the card type is detected as credit. The bank or card issuer declines the transaction before the casino ever receives the funds. A declined card is therefore usually this rule working as intended, rather than a fault with the operator or your account.
The credit-card ban is a legal rule that applies to all gambling in Ireland, online and in person.
- Ban started 5 February 2026
- Scope Online, mobile and in-person gambling
- What licensees may not do Facilitate credit for gambling
- Debit cards Unaffected and fully usable
If you try a debit card and it still declines, contact your bank and ask whether it blocks gambling merchant codes. Some Irish banks do this by default, especially on new accounts or after recent fraud alerts.
The methods Irish players actually use
Card payments dominate Irish spending. The Central Bank recorded 149.8 billion euro of card payments in 2024, up 25.5 percent on the previous year. By the second quarter of 2025, online transactions made up 61 percent of electronic card activity. That is the landscape a casino cashier operates in.
- Revolut customers More than 3 million in Ireland
- Monzo launch 14 April 2026 with an Irish and EU banking licence
- Payz 2023 rebrand of ecoPayz
The table below summarises the main methods, what they are used for, and the issues to watch. Withdrawal times are general patterns for the method, not promises from any named casino.
| Method | Deposit | Withdrawal | Typical speed | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Debit Visa | Yes | Yes | Deposits instant; withdrawals often 1 to 3 banking days once approved | Use Visa debit, never credit |
| Mastercard | Yes | Yes | Same pattern as Visa | Mastercard debit; some issuers block gambling codes |
| Revolut | Yes, usually | Yes | Deposits instant; withdrawals to the same account often within hours once released | Revolut cards are debit, but some merchants flag new accounts |
| Monzo | Yes | Yes | Instant deposits; withdrawals via bank transfer speed | Monzo has an Irish licence, but not every casino lists it |
| Bank transfer | Yes, slower | Yes | Deposits can take hours to a day; withdrawals often 1 to 5 business days | Manual entry, bank cut-off times, and possible name mismatch |
| PayPal | Rarely offered | Sometimes | E-wallet speed where available | PayPal is widely held but not commonly listed by Irish-facing casinos |
| Paysafecard | Yes, prepaid | No | Deposits instant; withdrawals not supported | Use Paysafecard only for deposits, then pick another method for cash out |
| Skrill | Yes, sometimes | Yes | Deposits instant; withdrawals often same day once approved | Account in same name; some casinos exclude e-wallets from bonuses |
| Neteller | Yes, sometimes | Yes | Similar to Skrill | Verification and currency conversion fees can apply |
For the method most Irish players already have installed, our dedicated Revolut page goes deeper.
Why the withdrawal is slower than the deposit
Deposits move quickly because they are a push of funds into an account the casino controls. Withdrawals move through several checks before funds leave the operator. Casinos hold withdrawal requests in a pending state, often described as a reversal window, so a player can cancel the request and keep playing. That window is a product decision and not something the regulator imposes.
Once the request is approved, the method used to deposit normally receives the money. This is an anti-money-laundering rule in most cases rather than a casino preference. If you deposited with Revolut, expect the withdrawal to go back to the same Revolut account. If you used Paysafecard, you will need to choose a different method, because that voucher cannot receive a refund.
Deposits
Usually instant or near-instant with cards, e-wallets and prepaid vouchers. The casino makes this path direct. The main failures are credit-card blocks or issuer gambling flags.
Withdrawals
Withdrawals are always slower, and the reasons are structural. Verification, pending windows, bank cut-off times and weekends all add days. The fastest operators still leave room for manual checks on large amounts.
For an overview of operators that process withdrawals quickly by method, see fast payout casinos. Remember that fast usually means once verification is complete, not from the moment you press withdraw.
Verification before your first withdrawal
The first withdrawal triggers know-your-customer checks at every licensed operator. You will normally do this once, then later withdrawals move faster. Have a clear photo of your passport or driving licence, a recent utility bill or bank statement, and the card or account details you used to deposit.
- Submit your ID
A passport, passport card or driving licence with a clear photo and visible expiry date.
- Prove your address
A utility bill, bank statement or official letter dated within the last three months.
- Verify the payment method
For cards, a photo showing only the first six and last four digits, with the middle covered.
- Wait for the match
The operator checks the document against your account details and releases the withdrawal.
If you feel pressure while waiting, step away. The responsible gambling page lists Irish support services.
Crypto, and why it is a warning sign here
No GRAI-licensed operator accepts cryptocurrency. That is a simple register-level fact, not a prediction about Bitcoin or Ethereum. The remote betting and betting intermediary licences issued so far all operate in euro, and the gaming licences that are expected in 2027 and 2028 will follow the same framework.
A casino that openly offers Bitcoin, Ethereum or another token to Irish players is doing so outside the Irish licensing system. It may hold an overseas casino licence, but its Irish-facing crypto payments sit apart from the GRAI framework. For a closer look at how that works and what to ask, see using Bitcoin at Irish casinos.

Can I still use a credit card to deposit at an online casino in Ireland?
The credit-card ban has applied to all gambling in Ireland since 5 February 2026, online and in person. A casino cannot accept credit-card funds or facilitate credit, so use a debit card or another permitted method.
My card was declined even though I have enough credit. What happened?
If that card is a credit card, the decline is the ban working. The card issuer blocks the gambling transaction before it reaches the casino, and the operator’s own terms are not the cause. Switch to a debit card from the same bank and the deposit usually goes through.
Is Revolut accepted at most Irish-facing casinos?
Revolut is close to universal among payment methods in Ireland because its cards operate on Visa or Mastercard rails. More than 3 million Irish customers use it, and most casinos that accept debit cards will accept a Revolut debit card. Some casinos may still flag newly opened Revolut accounts for extra checks.
Why does a withdrawal take days when the deposit was instant?
A deposit is a simple transfer into the casino’s account, while a withdrawal has to pass through verification, a pending window and bank processing. Weekend cut-off times and anti-money-laundering checks add further hours. The money usually returns to the method you used to deposit.
Can I use cryptocurrency at a casino licensed in Ireland?
No GRAI-licensed operator accepts cryptocurrency, so any site offering Bitcoin to Irish players sits outside the Irish regulatory framework. It may hold an overseas licence, but its crypto payments are not covered by the GRAI. Treat that as a warning sign and check the operator’s register entry before depositing.
