You open a casino lobby and see hundreds of tiles. They split into categories that behave in very different ways. The house edge is the thread connecting all of them, and it decides how long a bankroll tends to last.
Online casinos serving Irish players currently operate under overseas licences, usually Malta or Gibraltar, while the GRAI introduces casino licensing in phases. A GRAI number on a site covers the sportsbook, not the casino games. Check the register at grai.ie/register before you accept any claim about Irish regulation.
Top casinos for table games in Ireland
The table below lists casinos we have checked against public registers. The order rests on our transparency score, which tracks how easily you can verify the licence behind the casino, rather than on game count or payout speed.

House edge, and why it decides everything
Every casino game pays out less than the true odds over time. That gap is the house edge. It is expressed as a percentage of your total stakes, and it works on turnover rather than on your starting balance.
Take a 1 percent edge on 100 euro of total stakes. The expected loss is 1 euro. Turn the same bankroll over ten times and you have staked 1,000 euro. The expected loss becomes 10 euro. The game did not change. The amount you cycled through it did.
This is why a session of 200 spins costs more in expectation than ten spins, even when the balance looks similar along the way. The edge never sleeps. You cannot influence it by pressing the button faster or by waiting for a streak.
House edge The casino’s long-run share of each stake.
Expected loss Edge multiplied by total turnover.
RTP The player’s return over a large number of rounds, before variance.
The main categories
Lobbies are arranged by game type, but the useful split is by how much the player controls. Some games ask you to make decisions. Others simply convert a stake into a random result.
Fast random games
Slots and game shows dominate this group. You set a stake, press a button, and wait for the outcome. The return comes from the game’s maths, and the player’s only real choice is how much to wager and when to stop. Read more in our slots guide.
Table games
Roulette, blackjack, baccarat and video poker sit here. The player can choose bets, and in some games the decisions change the expected result. Compare the options in our table games hub.
Dealer-led games
Live dealer tables and poker-style variants stream a real person. The interaction is social, but the underlying chances follow the same maths as the digital versions. See live casino for how the streams work.
Skill, chance and what they mean here
Some games let decisions change the expected loss. Others fix it entirely. This table groups the main categories by how much the player controls before and after the wager.
Category

What the player controls
Slots
Stake, number of paylines where offered
Only the size and speed of the session
Roulette

Volatility, but not the house edge of any bet type
Blackjack
Hit, stand, split, double
Expected loss per hand when playing correct basic strategy
Baccarat
Banker, player or tie
The commission structure and which side you back
Poker-style table games
Fold, call, raise, discard
Some elements of skill against other players or a paytable
Live dealer

Time per round and table selection, not the maths
Game shows

Volatility and stake size only
Blackjack stands out because a decision changes the expected result. Roulette and slots cannot be influenced by strategy. The player chooses risk rather than return. Our blackjack guide and roulette guide go through the details.
Live dealer games
A live dealer table streams a real croupier from a studio. You watch the wheel spin or the cards arrive through a camera feed while placing bets from the same account. The stream adds pace and trust, because you can see the result happen.
Evolution is the dominant supplier in Irish-facing lobbies. Most live roulette, blackjack and game show tables you see come from its studios. The stream does not change the maths. It simply replaces a random number generator with a physical process that is recorded.
Pick a table
Choose a game and a stake level. Tables are grouped by dealer, speed and minimum bet.
Watch the stream
The feed shows the dealer and the equipment. You see every result as it happens in real time.
Place your bets
Use the overlay controls to stake within the round timer. Late bets are not accepted after the dealer calls no more bets.
Settle the round
Winnings are credited to your balance automatically. The next round starts after a short pause.
Stream quality Most tables run at high definition with a stable feed.
Dealer pace Live rounds are slower than digital play, usually 40 to 80 seconds.
Bet limits Live tables often have higher minimums than their digital twins.
A live stream makes the result visible. It does not make the hands or spins more favourable. The house edge stays the same whether a dealer draws the card or a random number generator decides it.

Casinos we have checked
We score a casino on how well its licensing is documented, not on how enjoyable the games are. A high transparency score means you can verify the casino licence and the Irish betting touchpoint quickly. It says nothing about payout speed or game variety, because we did not deposit, withdraw or count a lobby. That honesty is the product.
How the review is organised
30 %Casino licence in a public register
We find the company that actually runs the casino in a regulator’s own public register, not just a badge in a footer.
20 %Irish regulatory touchpoint
Whether that same company is on the GRAI register. It covers betting, never casino, but it means an Irish regulator already holds the operator to account.
20 %Disclosure on the operator’s own pages
Whether its own site names the contracting company, the casino licence and which product each licence covers.
20 %Accuracy of its Irish claims
Points are lost where a betting licence is presented so it could read as casino approval, and lost entirely for implying Irish casino licensing that does not exist.
10 %Corporate traceability
Whether the register gives a company registration number and licence number you can look up, and how many companies sit between the player and the licence.
bet365 is the clearest example of corporate complexity in Irish-facing casinos. The casino runs under Hillside (Gibraltar) Limited, which holds a Gibraltar Gaming Operator (B2C) licence. The Irish betting licence sits with a different company, Hillside (Europe) ENC, under GRAI-0539-RB-26-0001.
The Gibraltar register publishes no licence numbers, only the holder and the category. That makes the casino side harder to trace than a Malta licence with a public number. The score drops because a reader has to unpick three separate Hillside companies to confirm what is covered.
That complexity adds steps to the verification trail. A player who wants a quick check will have to work harder here than on the top-scoring brands. Read our review method to see how we trace company structures.

Our transparency score

This editorial rating reflects the length of the corporate trail, not the quality of the games.
William Hill Vegas
8.0/10
Screenshot of William Hill Vegas lobby.
William Hill Vegas runs under WHG (International) Limited from Gibraltar with a Gaming Operator (B2C) licence. The Irish betting side belongs to WH Ireland Ltd under GRAI-1096-RB-26-0001. Those are different companies, so the casino and the sportsbook are not covered by the same Irish licence.
The separation is clear enough once you know which company to search. The casino pages link to the Gibraltar licence, and the Irish betting page names the GRAI holder. That is better than brands that bury the company name in a footer or use vague wording.
The score sits at 8.0 because the documentation is good but the casino itself has no Irish regulatory touchpoint. A GRAI betting licence on the main site can mislead a player who assumes the whole operation is Irish-regulated. The distinction is visible, but it needs one extra step.
William Hill Vegas lists the licensee clearly on its own pages. The corporate trail between the casino and the Irish betting company is easy to follow, and the Gibraltar category is stated without any misleading Irish claim.
The transparency rating relies on public registers rather than our own play. We have not tested the withdrawal process or counted the lobby.
In its favour
Licensee and category are stated on the casino pages.
Irish betting licence is identified under the correct company.
The Gibraltar register entry is straightforward to find.
Watch out for
The Irish betting licence does not cover the casino games.
Two different companies sit behind the two licences.
No GRAI touchpoint applies to the casino product itself.
Betfair Casino
8.5/10
Screenshot of Betfair Casino lobby.
Betfair Casino shares its casino licensee with Paddy Power: PPB Counterparty Services Limited, a Malta company holding MGA/CRP/131/2006. The same company also holds the GRAI betting licence GRAI-1003-RB-26-0001. That is the clearest example of the split between a casino licence and a betting licence, because one company appears on both registers.
The exchange product adds a separate GRAI licence, GRAI-1074-RBI-26-0001, for betting intermediary activity. The casino product itself sits on the Malta licence, not on the Irish register. A player checking the GRAI register will see the company, but the gaming side is MGA territory.
The score reaches 8.5 because the corporate trail is unusually clean. One company, one Malta licence, one GRAI betting licence and one exchange licence. The gap is that the casino still lacks an Irish gaming licence, because no such licence exists yet.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an Irish licence to play casino games online?
Casinos serving Irish players currently operate under an overseas licence from Malta or Gibraltar. The GRAI register covers betting, not casino games. Check the operator’s own pages and the overseas register before you deposit.
Which game gives the player the most control?
Blackjack gives the player more control than roulette or slots, because hitting, standing, splitting and doubling change the expected loss per hand. That control only matters if you follow correct basic strategy. Read our blackjack guide before you sit down.
Do live dealer games have different odds from digital games?
A live dealer game uses the same maths as its digital version. The stream makes the result visible but does not change the house edge. The main differences are pace, bet limits and the social element.
Are casino winnings taxable in Ireland?
In practice, casual gambling winnings are not taxed in Ireland for the player. Revenue does not treat occasional gamblers as traders. If you gamble professionally or through a business, the position changes, so check with Revenue directly.
Where can I check an operator before I play?
Open the footer of the casino site and find the company name. Search that company in the MGA register at mga.org.mt or the Gibraltar register at gamblingdivision.gov.gi, then compare the GRAI register at grai.ie/register for any Irish betting touchpoint. Our review method walks through the same steps.
